Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks is renowned for his appearance in some of the incredible films. His contribution to the Toy Story franchise is undeniably one of the best works of his career. Additionally, the actor has also been a part of The Da Vinci Code.
Though the film grossed well at the box office, it failed to impress the critics, and Hanks somewhere agrees with it. The actor previously claimed during an interview that he isn’t very thrilled to be a part of the film. The film was directed by Ron Howard, who also directed the film Rush starring Chris Hemsworth. Interestingly, the experience of working with Howard was entirely different for Hanks and Hemsworth.
Tom Hanks isn’t very thrilled to consider himself a part of The Da Vinci Code
Tom Hanks has collaborated with American director Ron Howard on several films, resulting in a few blockbusters. Among these are the 1984 film Splash and the 1995 release of Apollo 13. However, there is one film that didn’t live up to the expectations critically. It was a 2006 film The Da Vinci Code, in which Hanks portrayed the role of Robert Langdon.
The 2006 release was based on Dan Brown’s famous novels. While the film series was a commercial success, it wasn’t well received by the audience. The lead protagonist of the film, Hanks also isn’t very fond of the movie, as he called it a bunch of “hooey”.
Previously during an interview, Hanks claimed that he isn’t a pessimist yet when he came across the script of The Da Vinci Code series, he knew that these movies were very cynical and asserted that these films are created just to make money without giving a thoughtful output to the audience. The actor said,
“Oh, God, that was a commercial enterprise. Yeah, those Robert Langdon sequels are hooey. The Da Vinci Code was hooey. I mean, Dan Brown, God bless him, says, Here is a sculpture in a place in Paris! No, it’s way over there. See how a cross is formed on a map? Well, it’s sort of a cross. Those are delightful scavenger hunts that are about as accurate to history as the James Bond movies are to espionage. But they’re as cynical as a crossword puzzle.”
Hanks also acknowledged that while the movies performed well at the box office, they could have provided more value to the audience. Despite having a talented star cast including Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou, and more, Ron Howard’s film failed to make a significant impact on the audience.
Chris Hemsworth has an entirely different perspective on working with Ron Howard
While Tom Hanks didn’t enjoy working on Ron Howard’s film, Chris Hemsworth was convinced to work on a film just after knowing that Howard was going to direct it. Earlier during an interview, the actor explained that during the initial phase of his career, he was quite indulged in filming superhero films back to back.
The actor wanted to explore other genres as well and his quest to perform roles other than superheroes landed him in Ron Howard. The actor further explained that when he came across a script and realized that Howard would be directing it, he was convinced to sign the film. The actor explained,
“I was shooting ‘The Avengers’ at the time I read the script. And the idea of working with Ron (Howard) and a film that was written by Peter Morgan was a no-brainer.”
Hemsworth and Howard worked together in the 2013 film Rush. Unlike Howard’s The Da Vinci Code, Rush was critically acclaimed by the audience and was considered a moderate success.
