Writer and director of just released Miller’s Girl Jade Halley Bartlett has some good words to say about Hollywood’s next big thing, Jenna Ortega, who has captured hearts and minds with her skill and charm. This psychological thriller tells the story of a wealthy and intelligent regular student, Cairo Sweet, played by Ortega and her teacher Jonathan Miller, played by Martin Freeman. They fall in love, and following a creative writing assignment, their relationship becomes more complex.
Jenna Ortega, whose career in Hollywood has seen rapid growth, has moved from being a child star to a critically acclaimed leading lady. And every movie she stars turns into gold. Director Bartlett, in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, spoke about how her performance in one movie compelled her to bring Ortega on board.
Jenna Ortega Has Come a Long Way
From portraying a young Jane in Jane the Virgin to the role of Harley Diaz in the Disney sitcom Stuck in the Middle, then with the Netflix series Wednesday, Jenna Ortega has made a name for herself as one of Hollywood’s rising stars.
She has received praise from critics for her nuanced performances and showed her ability to handle subjects of a more adult nature. She is just 21 years old now. But she has shown great skills and hard work going beyond her tender age and has been able to cement her reputation as a talented actress.
Her roles in the horror movies Scream and X, as well as the Netflix series Wednesday, have made Ortega a true sensation in Hollywood who seems to be here for a long time.
Her skill, adaptability, and uncompromised dedication to her craft will surely make her a force to be reckoned with. She will keep pushing boundaries and explore new dimensions to show what she’s built of.
Miller’s Girl Director Pours Praise on Jenna Ortega
In an interview with Screen Rant, Miller’s Girl writer and director Jade Halley Bartlett praised Jenna Ortega for her brilliant performance in the movie. Also, she has mentioned which Ortega movie has made her think about bringing Ortega to the team.
When the director was asked if there’s any such previous movie of Jenna Ortega that was enough to cast her, Bartlett said:
“I didn’t really know her work very well until I met her. I’d seen The Fallout, which I’d really resisted watching because I thought it was going to be so bleak, but it’s so wonderful.”
Bartlett continued:
“She is from the desert. I’m from Tennessee, but we both have these very similar Gothic proclivities. And she said things to me about the character that I had never vocalized aloud. It’s like she climbed inside of my head and said those things. So it was almost like kismet. People talk about the wedding dress thing, and I’m like, “That’s not real.” It is real. I was like, “Oh, you’re the right wedding dress. Yes, it has to be you.” And she’s extraordinary. She’s so terrifying in a good way.”
Josh Fagen, Seth Rogen, James Weaver, Mary-Margaret Kunze, and Evan Goldberg are producing the film. Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, and Gideon Adlon star in Miller’s Girl alongside Ortega and Freeman.
Distributed by Lionsgate, Miller’s Girl is running in theaters.
