Even after the band disbanded in 1970. McCartney continued making solo music that also turned out successful. He sang for the theme song of Roger Moore’s 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die (the song had the same title). The song was famously covered by the rock band Guns N’ Roses and McCartney was amazed to hear their cover of his song.

When Paul McCartney was in The Beatles, their songs were huge and highly popular among audiences and other aspiring artists at the time. The band is considered one of the most covered bands in history with the songs Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, And I Love Her and Blackbird included in the list of the most covered songs of all time (according to Mental Floss)

It came as no surprise when Guns N’ Roses decided to cover McCartney’s 1973 hit James Bond theme song Live and Let Die. Instead of being angered by the act, McCartney was flattered by the cover version and even liked their incarnation of his hit song. He talked about this on an appearance on the A Life In Lyrics podcast saying,

“It was always a sneaky ambition to write a Bond song because, in some ways, I like to see myself, one portion of myself, as a jobbing writer. You require a song for the queen’s wedding, I’m your man. I thought it was pretty good, actually. I was more amazed that they would actually do it, this young American group

The interesting thing was my kids would go to school, and they would go, ‘My dad wrote that.’ They’d go, ‘No, he didn’t, it was Guns N’ Roses,’ so nobody would ever believe them. For a while, it was just Guns N’ Roses. I was very happy that they had done it. I always like people doing my songs.”

McCartney feels delighted when other people cover his music. It shows that they have a lot of love and respect for him as an artist and other bands or artists covering his songs is like giving a tribute to him. Hence, he is incredibly flattered by this unique way of showing love for him.

The success and popularity that The Beatles achieved have been extraordinary and unprecedented. No band has been able to reach the heights and accomplishments that the band has managed for over 10 years. The band and their music still remain highly popular and loved by millions of people today.

The drummer of the band Ringo Starr talked to The Sunday Times of London about how he and his bandmates thought they wouldn’t last even for a week. He and Paul McCartney also expressed their amazement at how the band still remains popular and relevant today. Starr said,

“None of us thought it would last a week! Paul was going to write, I was going to open a hairdresser’s, George would get a garage. But it went on and then it ended. And at the right time, I think. But, you know, that didn’t stop us playing with each other.”

The band recently released their final song as a band titled Now and Then. A rough draft of the song had existed since 1977 and now with the help of modern technology, John Lennon’s vocals and George Harrison’s guitar compositions have been retained. The song proved to be an official swansong for the band and an emotional goodbye to fans.
