While every character in the second season of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria has experienced a great deal, Cassie’s story (played by Sydney Sweeney) has been the most tragic and hilarious of all. Since the first episode of Season 2, Cassie has gone through a lot, such as getting locked in a bathroom and falling deeply in love with Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi). Also, a tumultuous new love triangle was revealed, starring bad boy Nate, his gorgeous but bittersweet ex-girlfriend Maddy (Alexa Demie), and Maddy’s best friend Cassie. Yes, it’s complicated.
Cassie attempted to woo Nate at Maddy’s birthday party, but all that happened was that the poor girl became so drunk that she puked in a hot tub. In an interview with Decider, Sweeney detailed the specifics of filming the vomiting scene, and, to be honest, it did not sound like much fun for anyone involved. Since Demie was the unintentional recipient of Cassie’s flying vomit, she did not enjoy filming the scene either. But be warned—this article is not for the queasy-hearted!

Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Shed Light on the Puke-Filled Hot Tub Nightmare Scene
We can all agree that fans of Euphoria Season 2 have been eager to see what happens next. Cassie Howard is one character in particular who has drawn a lot of attention from viewers this season. Sydney Sweeney’s character has encountered completely insane moments. Her incident where she puked in a hot tub, though, was the most memorable.
Before both Cassie and Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) attend Maddy’s birthday party, they have a heated argument over their covert relationship with each other. After getting completely wasted and haunted by guilt and inebriation, Cassie puked all over herself and Maddy (Alexa Demie) in the middle of the hot tub during their argument.
Now that the scene has been filmed, Sweeney has revealed how they were able to make it appear so terrifyingly real. The actress described the whole filming vomiting scene process in an interview with Decider, and to be honest, none of it sounded very enjoyable. She said:
“That episode is so chaotic for [Cassie]. What I love about Sam [Levinson] is every shot he wanted her to be drinking a different bottle…During the hot tub scene, during the throwing up, I got really grossed out. They had this invisible tube that looked like a horse bit and they put it in my mouth and I had to somehow hold and make it look semi-normal and then throw up over everyone which was…it was so gross.”
And if you have watched the scene, you will understand just how gruesome and terrifying that particular moment was.
Alexa Demie Admitted That Cassie’s Vomit ‘Wasn’t Real’
The cast found it difficult to film the puking scene, even though it might have been entertaining for fans of Euphoria to watch. In an interview with Collider, Alexa Demie, who played Maddy Perez, said that Cassie’s vomit was not nearly as fake as people seemed to think it was.
“That wasn’t fake. It came out of her mouth. She vomited.”
In an interview that was posted on Euphoria’s YouTube channel behind the scenes, Demie did not take long to mirror Sydney Sweeney’s thoughts:
“It was disgusting. I’m not good with vomit. It wasn’t real, obviously. But seeing any… I’m shocked I didn’t vomit.”
Fortunately, Sweeney escaped the scene unscathed and unharmed. She did, however, encounter a more unpleasant and repulsive experience while filming Euphoria. Well, among the many honors bestowed upon the series is a nomination for the Outstanding Drama Series Primetime Emmy Award. Production on the third season got underway in December 2023.
Meanwhile, you can stream Euphoria on HBO Max.
