Daniel Dae Kim opens up about Mark Hamill’s voice acting as Fire Lord Ozai

Mark Hamill is one of the most established actors in Hollywood and the actor is most well-known for his portrayal of the protagonist, Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy series of the epic space opera franchise, Star Wars.

However, other than being an incredible actor as we have seen him in Star Wars and throughout his theatre career on Broadway, Mark Hamill is also an incredible voice actor. In his voice acting career, Hamill is best known for his impersonation of the voice of DC’s infamous villain, the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.

Mark Hamill also lent his voice to the main antagonist, Fire Lord Ozai in the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series in which the actor completely sounded like someone else. If someone does not know the cast of the series, it can be pretty hard to guess who portrayed the voice of Ozai as the actor did not sound like himself at all.

Daniel Dae Kim talks about Mark Hamill

In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Daniel Dae Kim who portrayed the role of Fire Lord Ozai in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender talked about how he himself took inspiration from Mark Hamill’s impersonation of Ozai in the original animated series. He said,

“First of all, I think Mark Hamill, you know, is one of our best voice actors. When I first heard him doing the Joker, I didn’t know it was him. And when someone told me it was [him], I had real time, a hard time, trying to compute putting those two ideas together. That’s how good his work is.

And so when I heard him voice Ozai the thing that I really love most about it was his refusal to apologize for the character. Like he went full-throated and wholehearted into what that character wanted without apology. And I thought that was something to take away.”

Mark Hamill does not become a part of many movies or shows frequently but when he does, he makes sure to give his best and leaves an incredible impression on the fans.

Aang has not even learned Earthbending as of yet and a lot of interesting side characters like Toph have also not been introduced in the series thus setting up the series perfectly for a 2nd season.
