Karen Gillan reprised her character of Nebula for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and more. The third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series followed Guardians saving Rocket’s (voiced by Bradley Cooper) life from High Evolutionary.

Gunn returned to work on the movie in 2019 after being fired by Disney in 2018 following the resurfacing of his controversial posts. The last part of the series was well-liked by the audience and the critics making it a commercial and critical success. The movie was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards.

In a recent interview with THR, Karen Gillan was asked about the post-credit message from the movie noting that Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt was returning. To which she said,

“No, I don’t remember seeing that in the script. So either I have a bad memory or it wasn’t in there. So it was pretty surprising, but it was cool as well. I was like, ‘Okay, what’s the plan here?’”

Upon asking about the ‘parental roles’ Nebula and Drax channelize on Knowhere, Gillan added that her character has a real sense of purpose now, and it’s such a major part of healing. The actress mentioned that Nebula has been through so much, and now she can finally accept love and show the same to others.

Questions about how where and when will Star-Lord return are still unclear. James Gunn however, in GOTG Vol. 3 digital commentary (via ScreenRant) shared that he and Pratt have forever talked about how great the ‘Legendary Star-Lord’ movie would be. But nothing can be confirmed, as James Gunn now is the co-CEO of DC Studios.

Will Karen Gillan join James Gunn’s DCU?

The actress was asked if she has considered transitioning into joining DCU as Poison Ivy especially after a fan art went viral in October 2023 casting the actress as the character. Digital artist (@bfhdesign) shared an artwork of Gillan as Poison Ivy with green eyes and a tint to her skin. Uma Thurman had previously played the character in 1997’s Batman & Robin

At the time, during Gillan’s conversation with Total Film (via Games Radar), she said,

“I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. Honestly, if James Gunn asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes. Because working with him has been one of the greatest joys of my career so far.”

While speaking to THR recently, she said, that the fact her GOTG character turned into a ten years of work is the greatest thing that has happened to her. The actress lastly added that she would like to leave things up to the universe and see where it takes her but noted that if she gets a chance to work with Gunn again, she’d happily do it.
