Karen Gillan Wants to Portray Poison Ivy in James Gunn’s DC Universe
Following their collaborations on the Guardians of the Galaxy film series, Karen Gillan is looking forward to starring in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. The actress has expressed her wish to work with the filmmaker again in the future as she shared that “working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far.”
She has also expressed that she would love to portray a character like Poison Ivy as she finds her “really fun.” In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the actress was asked about which version of the character she would like to play in the DCU.
And the Next Exit actress shared that she wants to portray the version of Poison Ivy involved in a romantic relationship with Harley Quinn. “That’s a good question,” she said before adding, “In a relationship with Harley Quinn sounds excellent.”
While the character is yet to be confirmed to make an appearance in James Gunn’s DCU, upcoming projects such as The Brave and The Bold and the Arkham Asylum TV show, which is expected to feature a number of Batman villains, could potentially feature the iconic villainess.
Fans Rooting For Karen Gillan to Join the New DCU
While Karen Gillan’s casting in the DC Universe is yet to be confirmed, fans have rallied behind the idea of the Jumanji star exploring intriguing roles such as Poison Ivy. Many have eagerly expressed their anticipation for Gillan to share the screen with Margot Robbie, who has portrayed the role of Harley Quinn in multiple DC projects, including Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad.
“Can’t fault her for wanting Margot Robbie,” one fan shared on X (Twitter). However, the Oscar-nominated actress’ return to the DC or the possibility of her reprising her role remains uncertain. Fans also urged the studio to bring Robbie back as Harley Quinn while deeming Gillan a “perfect” actress to portray the character.
Many also emphasized their desire to witness their story unfold within the broader DC universe, noting that they “haven’t seen Ivy in a live-action movie for decades.” Although the character has appeared in shows like Gotham and Batwoman, Uma Thurman famously portrayed Poison Ivy in the 1997 film Batman & Robin.
