“Conflicts divide us into ‘friends and the other people’, but the other people also have their own lives. I realized that again when he said “I’m sorry,” with tears in his eyes. It was really hard for me to understand his feelings so painfully. For the voice actors, crying scenes are fine as long as they sound like they are crying. But this time, I really couldn’t stop crying. I was so with his feelings that I had to interrupt the recording. It was a shocking experience for me, both as a performer and as an experience in my life as a voice actor. I had never done anything like that before. I will forget the joy of becoming one with the role and the pain of knowing he did that.”

Yuki Kaji is deeply connected with the moment when Eren apologizes with tears streaming down his eyes and a heart clouded with regrets before going on a killing spree. He claimed it to be the most memorable moment for him. Yuki Kaji found it rather challenging to empathize with the anti-hero who realized the consequences of his action on his enemies, who were just as alive as his people. The conflicting feelings were enough to break the voice actor into tears as he had to excuse himself from recording. This was a disheartening moment for Yuki Kaji, along with other voice actors on the set, who couldn’t help but feel conflicted about the values and moralities of their characters.
