MCU Stars Went Off Script for an Embarrassing Improv

MCU movies have often witnessed tearful goodbyes that were hard to accept for fans. But, surprisingly a few of them were major improvisations, like the one between Wanda and Vision. Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Vision, played by Paul Bettany, shared a heartbreaking separation in Avengers: Infinity War

In the scene, Vision asked Wanda to destroy the infinity stone that was keeping him alive, before it fell into Thanos’ hands. Therefore, the scene portrayed an emotional separation between Wanda and Vision, followed by Vision’s death. According to an interview with IMDb, Olsen mentioned how the whole scene was actually an improv.

Directors Joseph and Anthony Russo asked Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany to ab-lib the dialogue for the death scene. Therefore, the actors looked at each other in “abject terror”, realizing how hard it would be for them to improvise such an emotional scene without embarrassment.

Editors Had to Manage Vision’s Death Scene in Post Production 

Evidently, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany were right to guess that the filming part would be embarrassing and ridiculous. The death scene involving a lot of visual effects undeniably turned the energy on set quite silly. Thus, both the MCU actors faced difficulty in delivering the emotional scene with utmost seriousness.

Eventually, major set pieces and effects for Vision’s death scene were added in post-production. Shooting Vision’s death was so awkward for the MCU stars that editors had to manage the scene later on.
