James Gunn Explains Why Creature Commandos Was Picked As the Launch Project For the DCU
James Gunn has revealed the reason behind choosing Creature Commandos to start the universe. While speaking to fans on Threads, Gunn was asked why Creature Commandos was picked as the kicking-off project for the DCU.
Apart from the fact that it is already done making, they thought that it would work as a precursor to Superman: Legacy.
He said:
“It was written and ready to go, we thought it worked well as an apéritif before the meal of SL.”
Elsewhere, Gunn was asked about deciding on episode counts. Gunn said that they will let the story dictate how long a show runs, and for Creature Commandos, it just happens to be seven.
Creature Commandos is based on the DC Comics team created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. The series is created and written by Gunn. It is executive produced by Gunn, Peter Safran, and Sam Register.
Creature Commandos‘ characters consist of Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot/Weasel, and Steve Agee as John Economos, with Viola Davis reprising Amanda Waller in animated form.
