Does Alan Wake 2 have easter eggs?

Developer Remedy Entertainment has followed a pattern of uniting all of its different video game franchises in an interconnected universe for some while now. As a result, there’s been no shortage of easter eggs in Remedy Games for players to spot, and Alan Wake 2 is no different.

The first episode ‘Nightmare’ has just one easter egg that is known in the form of Cynthia Weaver, who is the woman first encountered in the Oh Deer Diner holding a lantern. She seems to be a possible reference to the log lady from Twin Peaks.

These include simple posters of Death Rally and Night Springs spotted, or Dr. Emil Hartman’s phone number being an actual number, explaining his clinic’s purpose when called.

Alan Wake 2 could have more undiscovered easter eggs

While Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 was amusing everyone, the Game Director, Kyle Rowley, spilled the beans on what it was like to return to Alan Wake’s world and all the easter eggs. Given that the seeds of the sequel were planted long ago in the first game, during an interview with Dread Central, he was asked if the team had a general idea of what Alan Wake 2 would look like. To this he says,

“After the original Alan Wake, there has always been a very rough idea of what the story for Alan Wake 2 could look like. That said, it has changed a lot over the years, and it was only after we started working on this specific concept that we started to lock it down, working with the writers and narrative designers to figure out all the details.”

He further added that these games are complex and that they spent a lot of time ensuring that the narrative of the game works best both by itself as a story as well as with the gameplay. According to Rowley, just these two elements, the story and gameplay, affect each other in complex ways.

“Honestly, I have no idea! I’ve not been keeping too close an eye on everything the fans have found so far. That said, even now, when I play the game, there are some hidden easter eggs I find that not even I knew existed! So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me if there are still some secrets left to discover.”

While Alan Wake 2 had an incredible impact on the gaming landscape, there are potentially a lot of easter eggs yet to be found in the game. So players, stay aware!
