Fans will have to wait for a long time before Ironheart arrives on the Disney+ platform. The production of the series has been delayed, and the new release date is now set for September 2025. While this news disappointed many, fans did not get their hopes high when they got a glimpse of the new design for the Ironheart suit. The design appeared on a sock listed on eBay, supposedly a gift from Ryan Coogler and the Proximity team to the crew members.
Although some fans found the suit somewhat similar to the comic book one sans the purple color, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man fans mostly hated the suit. Their disappointment with the suit translated into skepticism about the series, with many predicting Ironheart to be a potential disaster.

Ironheart Suit Disappoints Hardcore Iron Man Fans
Dominique Thorne played Ironheart for the first time in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Thorne’s Riri Williams is an MIT student who reverse-engineered Iron Man’s suit to develop her own suit. In Black Panther 2, Riri is seen wearing two suits, the Mark I suit and the Wakandan suit of armor. While the suits in the film felt unoriginal and diverged significantly from the comic books, fans had higher expectations for the Ironheart series.
In the images released on eBay, the suit features a black chest piece and retains the iconic hearts on the chest and forehead, as seen in the comics. Fans predict that this may not be the only suit in the series, as Thorne was spotted wearing a mo-cap suit for a much larger suit during filming in Atlanta. The design was shared by the X account, @MCU_Direct:

Fans were quick to criticize the suit, which in turn cast doubt on the entire series. While one fan called the suit a “Power Rangers” suit, others deemed the entire series as unnecessary. Some of the fan reactions included:
that show will never come out. it’s a damn disaster

This show will come out eventually and be a fart in the wind.

However, a few fans found the suit appealing and even preferred it over Thorne’s Wakanda Forever suit. One user also called it a “Spider-Iron” suit, drawing parallels to both Spider-Man and Iron Man’s suits. Others missed the comic book-accurate purple color of the suit.

Ironheart Gets A Delayed Release Date On Disney+
While Dominique Thorne shone in her role in the Black Panther sequel, her solo debut will take some time to hit the Disney+ platform. The writer’s strike delayed many of the Marvel projects, but it also provided Marvel some time to rethink its strategies. Marvel has brought Daredevil: Born Again back to the drawing board despite already beginning filming before the strikes.
Similarly, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is also undergoing some major changes after filming has concluded. The fate of these two series has pushed back the release date of Ironheart to sometime in September 2025. While Ryan Coogler’s involvement raises hope for the series, the current criticisms and the declining trend of Marvel might impact its success.
It is also confirmed that Borat fame, Sacha Baron Cohen, will appear in a major role in Ironheart. In the meantime, fans can enjoy Thorne’s performance as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, now available for streaming on Disney+.
