Helldivers 2 has broken many records since its release last month, including being Sony’s biggest hit ever to be released on Steam. However, one of the biggest controversies surrounding the game is how it was not released on Microsoft’s Xbox, despite being made available on other major platforms.

The same was talked about by none other than Phil Spencer, Microsoft Gaming’s CEO in an interview via GameFile, revealing his thoughts about the game’s exclusive release on PlayStation and PC.

Phil Spencer Opens Up About Helldivers 2 Not Being Made Available On Xbox

Helldivers 2 is without a doubt an amazing game, but there are many fans out there who are not able to experience it simply because of its exclusivity to Sony’s platform. This was also addressed by Spencer in the aforementioned interview, as he said:

“I will say, when I look at a game like Helldivers 2 — and it’s a great game, kudos to the team shipping on PC and PlayStation — I’m not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox”

The CEO of Microsoft Gaming essentially pointed out what fans have been trying to convey for decades now. He disclosed how he feels exclusivity does not benefit the industry and anyone who follows it. While he appreciated the amazing game Sony has created, he fails to understand how is it beneficial to anyone by not launching it on Xbox.

Xbox To Release 4 Of Their Exclusives On Other Platforms Soon, Is PlayStation Really The Bad Guy?

As revealed in one of the recent official Xbox Podcasts on YouTube, Phil Spencer revealed how they are planning to bring 4 Xbox-exclusive titles soon to other major platforms. While the names of these particular titles remain hidden for now, the CEO had the courtesy to disclose how Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circles are not on the list.

One of the few hints that are given about these titles is how all of them are more than a year old. Furthermore, with the company now exposing its franchises to other platforms in an attempt to increase inclusivity, fans beg to question if Sony would do the right thing and follow suit.

It is not just Sony that is notorious for holding back exclusives to their platform. Players over the years have criticized the likes of Nintendo for holding back Animal Crossing, Pokémon Games, and other iconic games to their exclusive handheld Switch console.

Helldivers 2 is available to purchase on Steam.
