Henry Cavill’s journey as the Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher wrapped up with the third season of the series, which was released earlier this month on the streaming platform. The actor announced his exit from the Netflix series ahead of its release, and makers announced that it would continue with Liam Hemsworth as the new titular hero from Season 4. While the showrunner had claimed to give an epic farewell to the star of the show, fans do not believe that the season 3 finale does something like that.

The second volume of season 3 has not received a very good response from fans and critics as they criticize the producers and writers of the show, citing them as poor writing and not following the source material. However, the director of the show does not agree with the remark, as she claimed that it was a perfect goodbye for the star of the series.

The Witcher Director Calls Season 3 Finale ‘Epic’

Following the massive backlash surrounding The Witcher season 3 finale, the director of the series, Bola Ogun, denied such claims as she suggested the finale was the perfect send-off for Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. She explained that the final scene was depicting the changes taking place in and around the series.

She further stated that it was kept a little more emotional to represent the feeling of change. “Basically it was just trying to create a continuation but make it feel different, make it feel like it was a long, soft goodbye,” she said during an interview with Polygon.

Talking about Cavill’s exit from the show, she said that everyone on the show would miss him as he was great in what he did, but she also believes that Liam Hemsworth would also do his best as the monster hunter. The director stated that the ending does exactly what she wanted.

I just wanted to send him off in an epic way. And he does! It’s a great fight. It’s a great last hurrah,” Ogun said. Before Bola Ogun, screenwriter Javier Grillo-Marxuach took to Twitter to claim that the writers and show makers do respect and read the source material.

Would The Witcher Survive With Liam Hemsworth?

Last year, Henry Cavill announced his departure from the Netflix series The Witcher. It was followed by the news that The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth would be the new actor who would take over as the monster hunter Geralt of Rivia from Season 4.

However, fans are not very supportive of the idea of seeing someone else leading the Netflix series and are still hoping that somehow he will return as Geralt of Rivia. And it seems fans aren’t the only ones, who are conflicted with the thought of a new Geralt.

Netflix has been promoting the third season of The Witcher with a billboard featuring a series of pictures and saying, “Yes. He’s still Geralt In Season 3, The Witcher.” The tagline does indicate that the streaming giant continues to utilize the Man of Steel star to gather an audience for the show. However, it might not be able to do the same with Hemsworth.

The Witcher is streaming on Netflix.
