From Beyoncés fan to becoming a star herself, Coco Jones began her career as a child actor for Disney just like many artists who are currently topping the charts. Her first big opportunity came when she was featured on the third season of Radio Disney’s The Next Big Thing. She went on to get roles in Let It Shine and the fan-favorite, Good Luck Charlie.
Now 26 years old, Coco Jones has climbed her way to the top and is now the proud owner of the prestigious Grammy Award. In a hilarious (and a little creepy) anecdote, Coco Jones remembered how she taped her own face on a photo of Queen Bey holding her Grammy awards. After last night, can finally hang up her own photos now!
It’s Time for Coco Jones to Leave Her Fangirling Days Behind
The 2024 Grammys proved to be a milestone in Coco Jones’ career as a singer. The former Disney star was nominated for five categories – Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best R&B Album, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best New Artist. Out of these five categories, Jones took home an award for Best R&B Performance for her song ICU.
After winning the award, Jones expressed her gratitude for the win and recalled how she once pasted her face over Beyoncé’s Grammy photos. She stated (via Associated Press),
“I was under the rain at the red carpet on my last stop and that’s when I heard that I won the award. I’m really soaking it in right now, looking at this award, thinking about my vision board and editing my face on Beyoncé’s picture of her holding the award. It’s totally surreal. It’s a lot to unpack on this stage.”
Now, she can finally take down the edited picture of Queen Bey and display her Grammy on the wall. Perhaps someday, somewhere, another little girl would hang up Jones’ photo on a wall with her face taped over the singer’s!
The Time When Coco Jones Met Beyoncé
While we have heard countless negative stories of fans meeting their idols, Jones falls in the opposite category. When the Moment of Your Life singer finally had the chance to meet her idol, Beyoncé, she came out of the encounter floating in the air.
Via People, Jones recalled,
“Beyoncé [when] I met her was like, ‘Oh, you’re the girl who’ll be singing her a** off.’ I was like, ‘Yes, I do try to do hat. Yes, thank you.’ [She said] she was proud of me and to keep going.”
What’s better than getting validation from the one you have been looking up to all these years? And now, Jones winning her very first Grammy proves that Beyoncé was right on the mark about the young singer!
