Bautista has yet to receive a call from Netflix, which is working on the live-action adaptation of the Xbox 360 video game franchise. Bautista has expressed his disappointment and has made it clear that he feels he could bring a lot of heart to the character of Marcus Fenix.

In an interview with Variety, Dave Bautista expressed his disappointment at not receiving a call from Netflix for the lead role in the upcoming Gears of War movie. Despite this, the actor remains hopeful that he will have the opportunity to portray Marcus Fenix, the protagonist of the first three titles of the popular Gears of War video game series.

Bautista stated that he believes he could bring a lot of heart to the character and feels confident that he could do justice to the role. He remains optimistic that he will eventually have the chance to bring his interpretation of Marcus Fenix to life.

“It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years, and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully, it’ll come my way and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometime.”

Netflix’s partnership with The Coalition, the developer behind Gears of War, was announced in November 2022. It was revealed that the streaming service would be bringing both an adult animated series and a live-action film adaptation to fans of the franchise. However, no other information has been released about the cast of either project.

Everyone But Dave Bautista Is Being Cast

Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of Gears of War, has rallied for Bautista to play Marcus Fenix and for a Latino actor to play Dom. In response to the Gears of War movie announcement, Bautista showcased his interest in the role by sharing a promotional clip of himself wearing the COG armor from his guest appearance in Gears 5. The actor also declined a role in the Fast & Furious franchise in favor of a Gears of War adaptation.

Despite Bleszinski distancing himself from Netflix’s plans for the franchise, he has expressed his desire for Chris Pratt to stay away and suggested Ryan Reynolds for the role of Baird. As for Dave Bautista, he continues to harbor hope of playing Marcus Fenix, the protagonist he’s been after for years.
