There are many versions of the reason behind Cavill’s departure from the show. The former Superman certainly loved to be in the series as it has been another factor in his career boost and it was fun to play the character. But when Beau DeMayo, the former producer and writer of The Witcher revealed excruciating details behind the show, it hit hard among fans similar to Cavill’s departure.

As if it was not enough for fans to move on from the hard-hitting news of Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher, another news on the show has shaken the fandom to the core. With a heinous allegation, former producer and writer of the Netflix show, Beau DeMayo revealed that some writers are deviating from the original books and games the popular series is based on.

“I’ve been on show – namely Witcher – where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material). It’s a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos, and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you’re allowed to add to its legacy,” DeMayo revealed in an Instagram Q&A session (via The Direct

Of course, it was a serious allegation, at least, when the global fandom of the show is invested in The Witcher Universe altogether. Now the question is, does it have something to do with Cavill? It’s evidently unclear as of yet but in regards to fans, it was a hard pill to swallow for sure.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich Has a Different Take on the Matter

Undoubtedly, the books and games in the universe are a huge inspiration for the show but there have been several instances that the show has shifted its narrative with slight changes. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed to IGN that they are all “big fans of the books. We’re all big fans of the video games as well, but this is solely based on the books and that’s really where we drew our inspiration from – starting with the short stories.”

“One of the first things that we did was basically tackle that question. Is do we want to do the short stories or do we want to do the saga, I mean, hopefully we have space and time to do it all. I mean, for me, you can’t skip the short stories, it’s absolutely where the world building takes place and where the foundation of this world is built. But also, Freya is sitting here. Ciri is part of our series, so we were also talking about how to make sure we bring her in early enough, and make sure Ciri has a story of her own as well. So I think audiences are going to be pretty surprised how we managed to wrap it all into one season of television.”

The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt of Rivia after Cavill’s departure after season 3 of the show.

The Witcher is currently streaming on Netflix.
