Henry Cavill’s exit from the cast of The Witcher stirred up serious controversy for many different reasons. One of the biggest was due to the show’s constant disloyalty to its source material. Since the actor was a big fan of the books and the games, he couldn’t stand by and watch something he was passionate about, getting trashed.

Despite many fans agreeing with the actor, some were confused about who to believe, with reports of Cavill being a menace on set floating around at the same time. However, recently, someone else who was a part of the Netflix series spoke up about something similar going on in the writers’ room.

Beau DeMayo, a former writer for The Witcher, has spoken up about what the writers of the series actually think about the games and the books.

When a remake or adaptation is being made, those who are involved must have a positive attitude towards the source material. If this is not the case, the effects will be felt in the final product. This seemed to have been the case for The Witcher, as Beau DeMayo, a former writer for the series, recently revealed the ins and outs of the writers’ room on the show.

Speaking about it on his Instagram account, via Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette, he talked about what the writers of the show thought about the source material. Interestingly enough, they were not fans of it, even going out of their way to mock what they were adapting.

“Some of the writers were not [fans] or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material.) It’s a recipe for disaster and bad morale.”

DeMayo mentioned how that sort of environment did not help in the flourishing of creativity, as why would one want to give a series their all when they do not even agree with what they are making? It is safe to assume that fans would be very angry at this revelation.

Henry Cavill’s Courage May Have Become Inspirational

When it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving the world of The Witcher, many fans were confused. Many believed it to be because of his comeback as Superman, which was quickly undone. However, many looked back at past interviews and rumors floating around.

There were many instances where the actor seemed to hint that he had to fight to make sure the show was faithful to the books. After his exit, some sources also claimed this to be the reason why he left.

“This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book’s Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more. I pushed really, really hard for that.” Cavill told TotalFilm.

It is possible that had Cavill not spoken up about his own experiences with the writers and their disregard for the source material, Beau DeMayo may not have gotten the courage to do the same. If the actor had not said anything and the writer had spoken up, then not much heed would be given to it. However, since the Superman actor did speak up, DeMayo’s side of the story only acts as more proof of the same.
