Dogs are always the best part of a movie and they will have you smiling at your screen throughout. The cuteness is just too much to handle! Whether it’s a comedy like A Dog’s Journey or a heart-wrenching tale like Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, these four-legged animals know just how to grab our attention.
Now, Charlie Cox and Zooey Deschanel are all set to star in a film in which their dog plays a huge part. Merv is a romantic comedy directed by Jessica Swale who has also worked on projects like Summerland and Ten Percent as a director. According to the premise of the film, Merv will focus on a broken-up couple who come together for the sake of their dog and fans couldn’t be more excited.
Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox’s Upcoming Rom-Com
We have all loved Zooey Deschanel and her personality in films like The Good Girl, 500 Days of Summer, Yes Man, and more. Her role as Jess Day in Fox’s New Girl had all of us wanting to have a friend just like her. All in all, the actress is a treat to watch on our screens, no matter what she does.
Coming to her Merv co-star, Charlie Cox is a force to reckon with. It goes without saying that he is best known for his work as Marvel’s Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil. He made his MCU debut with Spider-Man: No Way Home and will soon be leading his very own MCU show, Daredevil: Born Again.
And now, these two forces will soon be coming together for Amazon MGM Studios’ romantic-comedy, Merv, directed by Jessica Swale. As per the film’s premise, Deschanel and Cox will play a couple that has separated from each other. However, their break-up comes at the cost of their dog’s happiness. The two embark on an awkward vacation as they hope to lift their dog’s spirit who is suffering from depression after the break-up.
The film also stars Chris Redd (Joker), Patricia Heaton(The Middle), David Hunt (Murder on the Orient Express), and more.
Fans are Excited for the Fresh Romantic Comedy
The upcoming film’s principal photography has begun recently and fans finally saw the first look at the film. Thanks to the first look, we get to see Cox and Deschanel on what seems like a chill, laid-back vacation with their adorable dog. Wearing the perfect beach attires, both co-stars look absolutely perfect for a rom-com.
Looking at the photo, you can’t tell that the fictional couple has broken up and is only there to make their dog feel better. Only they know how awkward it must all be!

While Hollywood is constantly growing, it seems like feel-good rom-coms are being left behind. However, Merv seems like it has what it takes to revive the evergreen genre. This film is surely going to be a treat for all the dog lovers out there!
