Wesley Snipes is a great actor, but the star’s life has been riddled with loads of controversies and allegations. Known best for his role as the Marvel character Blade, the last of his Blade trilogy was also, unfortunately, stuck with a lot of controversial allegations. From his co-stars to even the trilogy’s director, many have spoken up about the horrific situation on sets of the most disappointing threequel in the history of threequels, Blade: Trinity.
Recently, director David S. Goyer appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and even though he experienced the worst time of his professional career on the set of the threequel, he still felt sorry for his lead star.
Director David S. Goyer Feels Sorry For Wesley Snipes Despite Hard Time On Set
Over the years there have been multiple rumors, allegations, and stories about the ‘horrific’ conditions on the set of Blade Trinity. Over the years, numerous people have spoken up about their experiences, and even the director of the trilogy David S. Goyer felt the same.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he stated,
“It was the worst experience of my professional career without question.”
While he has never given much detail about what made the experience so terrible, the stars of the movie have often revealed that all the on-set tensions and issue was because of the lead actor of the trilogy, Wesley Snipes. But despite everything, the director expressed he felt sorry for Snipes.
“It was an incredibly fraught experience it was personally very difficult. I was very depressed afterwards… Despite all of that I still think Wesley is one of the greatest actors of the current generation and it’s a tragedy that he’s not acting as much as… He was going through a lot of trouble at the time. All that tax stuff was happening right as we started and in fact, on our first day of filming there was this whole kerfuffle because the IRS had withheld like a bunch of his money… it was a mess.”
Goyer stated that he accepted that the production was a mess, just as many had claimed before him.
Blade: Trinity Production Was Riddled With On-set Tension
From Ryan Reynolds to Patton Oswalt, many of Wesley Snipes’ co-stars have spoken up about how hard filming Blade: Trinity was. Not only was Wesley Snipes allegedly hard to work with, but he was also allegedly non-communicative and non-cooperative. In an interview with IGN, Reynolds once remarked,
“I never met Wesley, I only met Blade, and he is a method actor.”
When asked in an interview with Premiere Magazine if he would like to return to the fourth Blade movie, he straightaway refused. Even though he stated he ‘would never do another comic book character except Deadpool’, many interpreted that it was his troubled relationship with Snipes that made him refuse.
Meanwhile, Patton Oswalt had similar but more serious things to say. He once stated in an interview with AC Club how Snipe allegedly strangled the director David S. Goyer and only communicated with Goyer on-set, and that too through Post-its signed as ‘from Blade’.
While Snipes denied these rumors, Oswalt has neither denied nor confirmed such rumors except that even though the production was extremely horrific, he still respects Wesley Snipes.
Blade: Trinity can be streamed on HBO Max.
