The widely popular Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds, known for his witty remarks, charm, and phenomenal acting, is a dream co-star for every actor there is, but there lies one expectation to this rule, and that is Wesley Snipes. Although their interesting dynamic on the sets of Blade: Trinity made it into the headlines of articles and tabloids countless times, it wasn’t until Reynolds publically addressed the “feud” that the tidbits of what really went on behind the scenes came to light.

Ryan Reynolds Tried Out Many Tactics to Make Wesley Snipes Break Character

Although it was rumored that Wesley Snipes always wanted to stay in character while filming Blade: Trinity, the rumors swirling around regarding his extremely peculiar “childish behavior” on set made it very hard for people to believe those to be true. Until Ryan Reynolds, his co-star in the project confirmed the news in an IGN interview stating,

“My personality is the polar opposite of Wesley. I never met Wesley, I only met Blade, and he is a method actor. Say what you want about that style of acting, I have the utmost respect for whatever it takes to get through this process.”

And thus upon being asked if he made a fun little game out of making Snipes break character, he agreed stating,

“(Laughs) That being said, yes I did. You know what, what I found was, I just use every moment. There’s a moment in the movie where I look up at Jessica and I swear to God, I didn’t even know the cameras were rolling anymore and I say, ‘He hates me, doesn’t he?’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah.’ I’m just saying this about my relationship as Ryan Reynolds to this guy, and it works. “

The actor would go off script, and make personal comments and funny remarks, but Snipes still did not leave his ground. As the actor further continued,

“There’s another one where I do a dime store psychoanalysis of him where I say, ‘You ever thought about sitting down and talking with someone, getting in touch with your inner child, and also you might want to try blinking once in a while.’ He just looks at me like he’s gonna turn me into a** pulp”

But even after trying this much, the actor was unsuccessful in making Wesley Snipes break his character and get a laugh or even a chuckle out of him. Although it is widely speculated that the two actors don’t see eye to eye even now, neither of them has ever commented on the situation definitively.

Wesley Snipes on His Rumored “Childish” Behavior on Set

There was a plethora of rumors and speculation flying around regarding what exactly happened behind the scenes of the movie. It was implied, that Ryan Reynolds wasn’t the only one on the set Wesley Snipes despised, the director David S. Goyer also suffered his wrath. But in an effort to defend himself, Snipes shared with The Guardian,

“Let me tell you one thing. If I had tried to strangle David Goyer, you probably wouldn’t be talking to me now. A black guy with muscles strangling the director of a movie is going to jail, I guarantee you,

In addition to that, the actor also reportedly refused to open his eyes in one scene which led to the team using laughably bad CGI to cover their tracks. It was also reported that the actor always communicated with the director through post-it notes and signed it as “From Blade” at the very end. Patton Oswalt also revealed the actor avoided working with Reynolds on set quite a lot. Although Snipes since then has denied most of the claims, his clash with Reynolds is a topic he is still yet to refute.
