Men’s Health magazine couldn’t help but take note of a set of life philosophies during their interview with Jeremy Renner. Among these life lessons, Renner holds one close to his heart, which revolves around dealing with the human ego. Renner is a trained martial artist who maintains a very healthy and dominating physique and has never used his fighting skills against any of his enemies.

The only time he used it was to survive being crushed to death by a 14,330-pound snowplow, which left him in a critical condition for weeks. Renner follows a simple rule to avoid physical altercations in life: to fight the problem with solutions rather than physical force. Renner also shared that he has become really good at problem-solving.

While he admitted that his solutions may not always be perfect or even good, they helped improve the situation rather than escalating it. Renner shared his simple rule with Men’s Health:

“I’ve never been in a physical altercation in my life. Why combat when you can find solutions to move around? It’s all ego-based when it comes to fighting. I’ve been fortunate enough to be good at problem-solving. It doesn’t mean all the solutions are perfect or that they’re even good. But at least it’s a solution instead of doing nothing.”

It seems that the world could use more Jeremy Renners to become a better place. Interestingly, The Hurt Locker actor has trained in Arnis and Muay Thai martial arts for his roles in Mission: Impossible and Avengers franchises.

When other Hollywood stars make the common man jealous with their mansions and private jets, Jeremy Renner makes us envious of his way of life. Renner’s role of Hawkeye aptly describes him in real life, the one who’s always there when you need their help the most. Renner owns several fire trucks and he is a trained firefighter, something that proves his commitment to society.

The Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol actor even jokingly commented on steering clear of Hollywood stereotypes of owning expensive things. Renner shared with a laugh, “F**k that. I bought a bunch of fire trucks. So f**k you, Ryan Reynolds or George Clooney or whoever. I’ll come put out the fire on your agave farm.” Renner recently created a docuseries for Disney+, Rennervations, in which he helps people reimagine purpose-built vehicles.
