Over the span of the last six decades, Martin Scorsese has become one of the biggest filmmakers in Hollywood. Known for his iconic films like Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York, and The Irishman, he has undeniably left an enduring impact on the film industry. Even in his 80s, he continues to excel, earning a Best Director Oscar nomination for his latest work, Killers of the Flower Moon. As he navigates his eighth decade, Scorsese has openly discussed the notion of retirement.
He has expressed a keen desire to persist in creating movies, sharing his desire to make a “couple more” films following the release of his 2023 project. However, fans have expressed concerns about the prospect of finding another filmmaker capable of capturing stories with the same profound essence as Scorsese, expressing their dissatisfaction with the future of cinema.
Martin Scorsese Fans Deliver Unprecedented Humiliation to Christopher Nolan
Fans of the legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese took to social media to express their discontent with the future of cinema, particularly targeting acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. They expressed their concern that the next generation of filmmakers lacks the raw and authentic qualities that define Scorsese’s illustrious body of work.
Fans highlighted their belief that directors like Christopher Nolan lack the street-level storytelling prowess that has become synonymous with Scorsese’s Oscar-winning legacy. One Twitter user said,
“What sucks is that after Scorseses gone there aren’t gonna be many big time filmmakers from the streets. It’s all gonna be these fancy kiddos like Nolan or somebodies nephew.”
They also expressed apprehensions about the limited number of directors with similar qualities, especially considering Quentin Tarantino’s impending retirement and highlighting that Spike Lee has shifted more towards streaming platforms.

Yes, but he still came from the streets of New York in the 70s from 2 blue collar parents who had to work hard to get him into school. He also had to sleep on film sets cause he couldn’t afford to live anywhere till he got a teaching job and his Boxcar Bertha check

I’m really scared, like fr, who is there to educate the new generation of people about Cinema. No one is ready to watch 1980s film nowadays. I am afraid the next gens will never know about Silent Cinema…

Scorsese is celebrated for his adept exploration of metropolitan genres and his ability to capture the gritty authenticity of city life in his gangster epics. Nolan, however, is known for his visually stunning and intellectually challenging films. The Scorsese fans find themselves not to be able to connect with his work as much as they do with Scorsese’s work.
Martin Scorsese Discussed the Prospect of Retirement

He further shared, “It’s just, I got as far as this. And that’s what I do. That’s it,” as he expressed his desire to produce a few more films, possibly just one if he can summon the necessary energy. “And if I could just muster up the energy, God willing, to make a couple more, one more maybe, and that’s it, okay?” he said during the interview.
After Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese is reportedly set to work on an adaptation of David Grann’s non-fiction novel The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck with his longtime collaborator, Leonardo DiCaprio.
