Fans of the two mega universes, DC and MCU often clash to deem their side the winner. Now Tom Holland and Ezra Miller are put into the boxing ring to fight it out after the recent releases. While both publishers have successfully brought some of the most iconic characters to life, with time, the bias among superhero enthusiasts has been pretty evident. However, it is mainly because of several reasons and factors that keep fluctuating throughout the years. DC Fans are now deeming this a conspiracy against them and are on the lookout for further clues.
This sudden uproar was triggered by the critique the two universe’s latest projects received. Whereas on the one hand Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home garnered a lot of praise, but on the other hand slammed the DC’s The Flash when both the films were categorized as fan services.
Is DC receiving unnecessary hate?
Although the recent feuds and controversies that DC is embroiled in at the moment have a significant role to play in public perception of the brand it also lies in the timing and cultural impact of their respective cinematic universes. Marvel Studios, under the guidance of Kevin Feige, initiated the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008 with the release of Iron Man. Whereas, by the time DC launched its own Extended Universe with Man of Steel in 2013, the MCU had already garnered a significant following.
Now coming in recent years, the number of controversies is the leading reason for the bad press surrounding its name. Be it a toxic-workplace environment or the casting of actors surrounded by controversies such as Ezra Miller or Amber Heard. This has seriously tainted the DCEU’s reputation. Thus, the latest projects especially the ones involving the problematic actors most obviously do not end up getting the support expected by the studio.
Did The Flash deserve all the hate?
In the case of fan services, the cast members play a vital role in the success of the movie. Even if the script and the storyline aren’t that strong, the cast involved is responsible for filling up the seats at the theatre. Thus, for instance, Tom Holland‘s No Way Home was a success because of a number of reasons which also includes the cast that was on board, not only did the film bring the three much-loved Spider-Mans together, it did everything that followed after that right. Although it may seem like a fan service, many argue its execution made it a blockbuster.
Whereas on the other hand, for The Flash, firstly the casting of Ezra Miller offended many people following the countless criminal allegations. The lackluster performance in addition to that did not help the movie as well. Although the much-awaited cameos especially the return of Michael Keaton are the only thing going right for the film.
But the loyal DC fans do not budge and are calling it an elaborate conspiracy against them.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but it’s clear that there’s an anti-DC bias.
The fact that The Flash’s fan service is getting criticized while Spider-Man: No Way Home’s was praised is the pure definition of hypocrisy.
I’m at the point now where I seriously hate critics. pic.twitter.com/T7mBcttvVg

Some understood the problem and chimed in by saying,
I think it has more to do with Ezra tbh. We’ve seen the media and critics push narratives and agendas before. Look at some of the reviews for hogwarts legacy that focused on the political drama vs actually reviewing the game. Objectivism in journalism is a dying art.

While others stated,
I think using “fan service” as a bad thing is a dumb argument to begin with. The very fact that we’re getting these movies is in service to the fans. We’re into phase 5 of the MCU lol if that’s not fan service then idk what is

This is Synder cult logic. “People don’t like something I like so it must be bias.” There’s no bias, Suicide Squad 2 is better reviewed than most almost every Marvel film in the last three years except Shang-chi and No way home.

I haven’t seen flash yet so I don’t know how the “fan service” works, but Andrew and Tobey in NWH aren’t just cameos, they’re integral part of the plot, they’re past experiences as spider man contributes to Tom development.

Therefore, all in all, there is no such bias among the people regarding the two mega universes. The fans are solely bluntly reacting to the substance they are being provided with and so are the critics.
The Flash is set to release on the 16th of June, the fans can also catch the iconic Spider-Man: No Way Home on the streaming service Disney+.
