“It’s gonna hurt the views for the final trailer”: DC Fans Question Dwayne Johnson’s Decision to Drop the Final Trailer for Black Adam on the Day Queen Elizabeth Died

Among atomic reviews, Dwayne Johnson finally drops the second trailer of his upcoming DC Extended Universe film, Black Adam. And it’s all we had expected and then some. The film was already predicted to be radical due to the elements associated with it, and The Rock’s attempts at making Black Adam a solo, antihero resurrection story did not disappoint. However, the only snag at the moment seems to be the timing of the trailer drop, which has unfortunately clashed with the British monarch’s passing.

Black Adam Trailer Drop Causes a Lot of Heads to Turn

For better or worse, Black Adam is getting all the attention right now as the DCEU’s latest leading man gets side-eyed for the launch of the film’s final trailer (watch it here) on the same day as Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. Both events have a wide-reaching impact and this makes the trailer launch seem a bit insensitive in the face of a nation’s mourning, even though the scheduled timing of the trailer drop had been pre-planned for months.

In the aftermath of the inopportune timing of Black Adam‘s final trailer launch, Dwayne Johnson had taken some time out of his morning routine to send a soulfully worded 2-minute video tweet expressing his solidarity and sympathy for the royal family in their time of grief. Although the two events are significant in their individual aspects, both have drawn the attention of the masses and Twitter couldn’t just let such an opportunity pass by without commentary.

Dwayne Johnson Keeps Getting Better in Black Adam

When Warner Bros. had planned for the launch of Black Adam into the DC Extended Universe, it was as an antagonist to Shazam! in the latter’s origin story. Not only would the focus on Shazam! have shifted the narrative away from the tribulations of Black Adam but it would also diminish it. The decision of making the anti-hero have his own completely realized story was one of the few better ones on the part of WB and DC Films.

With that being said, Dwayne Johnson is already raking up rave reviews for his portrayal of the DC character. The second trailer explores the anti-hero’s origin impetus, and gives a broader look into the anti-hero’s clash with the present-day Earth and his conundrum of either exacting revenge or choosing to be a savior. Although Black Adam marks The Rock’s debut at DCEU, he has already made an impact on the franchise with his bigger-than-life personality and an equally dedicated fanbase.
