It appears that the long-awaited Spawn reboot will soon happen, which is good news for comic book fans. In a recent update to Comic Book, Blumhouse Productions CEO, Jason Blum claimed that the project had suffered a setback and delay because of the ongoing WGA strike.

In addition, he added that despite the movie’s anticipated 2025 release date, there is no guarantee due to the severity of the Writers’ Strike that is currently raging. For the unversed, there have been many attempts to launch an unrelated reboot following the failures of the 1997 feature film adaptation of the Todd McFarlane comic book.

Well, the main character in Spawn is a marine who tragically dies before his time. He consents to become a Hellspawn after being condemned to Hell, which grants him superhuman abilities and the opportunity to act as an anti-hero on Earth.

In an unexpected turn of events, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum now projects that the Spawn reboot will hit theaters sometime in 2025 and may have a production delay due to the WGA Strike. Thus, he has raised anticipation among fans for the Spawn reboot of the superhero movie.

Known for his uncanny knack for transforming low-budget concepts into box-office gold, Blumhouse boss’ predictions for a 2025 release date have left fans buzzing with anticipation. The 54-year-old American film-TV producer recently sat down with Comic Book to talk about his recent endeavor, the Insidious franchise installment, Insidious: The Red Door.

Considering how actively it is being developed, Blum also shared the latest update on the eagerly expected Spawn project:

“I would say you have a lot to hope for because it’s in very very active development. What needs to happen is that my fellow friends, the writers and the studios, need to figure out their differences and get back to writing, but we’ve got a great group of folks putting it together, and my hope is that that movie— my prediction is maybe we’ll actually see a Spawn movie in ’25. No promises, but that’s my prediction.”

His remarks suggest that the project, which is about to go into production, does not yet appear to have a finished script. And until the ongoing WGA strike is resolved, no script will be finished.

A Struggle On The Road To Production?

Although the upcoming Spawn reboot was first announced in 2015, the production process has been slow and seems to have dragged on indefinitely. It was revealed in October 2022 that Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman, and Matthew Mixon would rewrite the film’s screenplay. Jamie Foxx reportedly had the role of the title comic book character locked down as of the 2022 update.

Todd McFarlane, the president of Image Comics and the author of the original comic book series, was originally going to direct the film. However, he is no longer working on that portion of the project as of March 2023.

Even though McFarlane has stepped down from both the screenplay and directing responsibilities, Jason Blum did not say whether the project was still in line with his vision.

Well, there is no doubt that the horror component will be handled in the new reboot of the film with Blumhouse on board. Also, we are sure that it would lean more heavily toward the horror aspect of the franchise.
