It’s no secret that James Gunn has a different level of admiration and love for the MCU star Chris Pratt. While meeting on the sets of Guardians of the Galaxy, the two hit it off quite well and can be compared to real-life best friends much like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Although friendship aside, Gunn did say that the upcoming role of Superman is not meant for Chris Pratt. Stating that if Pratt was a few years younger, he would have given the role to him but seeing the actor’s age, it just isn’t a possibility.

James Gunn Would Have Cast Chris Pratt If He Was Younger

Now years later, after Gunn became the new co-head of the DC Studios, the director has several important decisions to make. Talking about who would portray the role of the next Superman in the DCU, Gunn clarified that it is not going to be Chris Pratt at all. Although they are very good friends, the Peacemaker director stated that if Pratt was any younger, he would have cast him.

“It’s not Chris Pratt. If he was a few years younger, maybe. The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

According to reports, MCU actress Pom Klementieff is also in talks to join the DC Cinematic Universe as she is allegedly in talks with Gunn to join the DCU. Although this isn’t confirmed, Klementeif did state that there are some plans and talks in motion.

“We’ve had conversations and were making plans already. But nothing is confirmed yet.”

With the upcoming Guardians movie all set to release magnificently, James Gunn did talk about the upcoming DCU project Superman: Legacy and how it is more difficult to work with the Man of Steel rather than some unknown characters like Peacemaker or the Guardians.

After firing Henry Cavill for being too old to portray the role of Superman, Gunn essentially made himself the bad guy of the DCU. Fans loved Henry Cavill as Superman but Gunn went ahead with a complete revamp of the entire universe and started looking for younger actors to replace the role.

Talking about the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy, Gunn stated that he wanted it to be the first film in the Chapter of the DCU which is Gods and Monsters. The director further stated that he completely related to Superman since both were outsiders trying to find a place in the world.

“I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am. He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fricking Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”

He further continued that a character like Superman was harder to reprise since people have already created benchmarks and expectations based on previous actors.

“It’s easier to take a character nobody knows, like the Guardians, or Peacemaker, and then do whatever you want with them. People in every single country in the world know the story of Superman.”

With his magnum opus already getting rave reviews, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for a release date of 5th May 2023 in theaters across the U.S.
