But what’s new about this upcoming Batman animated series? Well, according to reports from writer and executive producer Ed Brubakerd, the upcoming show will reflect Bruce Timm’s initial vision for Batman: The Animated Series. But sadly, this time fans will miss Kevin Conroy in the role of Batman in the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader.
Batman: Caped Crusader Won’t Feature Kevin Conroy
Following the success of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s Batman cartoons, fans have been eagerly waiting for the next upcoming animated series. Therefore, taking the internet by storm, the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader made headlines which is again set to carry the mantle begun by Timm and Dini.
Unfortunately, this time the OG Batman Kevin Conroy won’t be appearing in the show. According to alleged reports from IGN, it was previously noted that Conroy would return in some form for Caped Crusader. But unfortunately, with the actor passing away in 2022, the plan got messed up. Thus informing fans through an Animesuperhero.com forum post, Bruce Timm shared the sad news.
“I have no idea if the CRISIS part of IGN’s supposed scoop is true or not, but Kevin Conroy did not record a voice for CAPED CRUSADER. We were hoping to have him do a voice for the new show (and he was eager to do it) but sadly he passed away before we could make it happen.”
Kevin Conroy’s death was itself hard to take for his die-hard fans, and now watching the Batman animated show without him in the lead role appears to be even more difficult for fans. But Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and the executive producer Ed Brubaker are trying hard to make it interesting for fans.
Batman: Caped Crusader Will Reflect Bruce Timm’s Initial Vision
According to writer and executive producer Ed Brubaker’s interview on YouTube with Comic Book Club, he shared several new details on the upcoming animated series. Attracting fans’ interest in the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader, Brubaker revealed how this time the show will be more focused on a noir tone with more visual violence.
Sharing important updates with fans during the interview, Ed Brubaker revealed that the upcoming series will reflect Bruce Timm‘s initial vision for Batman: The Animated Series. Although Timm previously failed to execute his brutal vision due to studio executives’ restrictions on heightened violence, this time he is planning on bringing the brutality onscreen.
“I’ll warn you guts, it’s definitely a lot different than [Batman: The Animated Series]. It’s very much a reconception of starting over… It’s not PG-13, but it’s definitely, it’s a lot different. It’s sort of like the show Bruce Timm always wanted to make, but that they wouldn’t let him make. There’s a lot more, you know, people actually getting punched on camera, and… I don’t want to spoil it for you guys, but it’s – everyone will kill me if I say it, but it’s kind of noir.”
Without giving out major spoilers, Ed Brubaker shared interesting updates with fans. He simply hoped for audiences to love the different take on the animated show, while claiming that people will certainly be shocked by a few things.
