House of the Dragon is the prequel to Game of Thrones and follows the Targaryen dynasty on the fictional continent of Westeros. The series is set nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and about 100 years after the Targaryens united the Seven Kingdoms. A lot transpired in the first season last year and now the trailer for season 2 has shown off a lot of interesting things that fans can look forward to in the show. In fact, the trailer even broke a major record.


House of the Dragon was a major step for the series, as it finally got back the sense of urgency, betrayal and political intrigue that fans of Game of Thrones sorely missed. Naturally, it was a huge step in the right direction from the last two seasons of Game of Thrones for many people.

What Happened In The Season 2 Trailer?

House of the Dragon is making its return for its second season, and HBO has already unveiled the first trailer. The teaser hints at a troubled Rhaenyra Targaryen preparing for the impending Dance of the Dragons, a civil war within the Targaryen family to determine the successor to the Iron Throne.

It begins with Queen Rhaenyra contemplating her next move amid the looming war. Ser Otto Hightower acknowledges mistakes made following King Viserys’ death, orchestrating the ascension of his grandson Aegon II to power. The conflict turns personal with an unexpected death in the season one finale, setting the stage for Rhaenyra’s vengeance. The trailer concludes with Rhaenyra riding her dragon Syrax into battle.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Trailer Broke Records On Max

House of the Dragon starring Emma D’arcy and Matt Smith has an unbelievable amount of hype for the second season already. After all, as pointed out by a Twitter account, the first trailer for season 2 already got over 63 million views in its first 48 hours – which is the most for any show on Max.

According to Variety, network chief Casey Bloys confirmed that House of the Dragon season 2 will air in “early summer” 2024 on HBO. We will have to wait and see whether the second season will surpass the first in every way.
