Speaking with EW, while Sara Hess refused to disclose plans regarding the third season, saying “nice try, but no”, Ryan Condal confirmed that they are “deep into writing” a third season if HBO decides they want it. Implying how ambiguous HBO can be, Condal explained they have to plan everything far in advance, or it would be impossible to keep up.

People are picking my brain all the time. It’s very early days, but we shall see.

Currently focused on delivering House of the Dragon seasons, it’s certainly quite early for Ryan Condal and even HBO to plan anything about Aegon’s Conquest.

Game of Thrones Fans Want Henry Cavill to Lead Aegon’s Conquest

Although Ryan Condal quipped that there have been talks about the Game of Thrones prequel series Aegon’s Conquest being in the works, despite no one pulling the trigger on that yet, the spin-off has rarely made any headlines since 2023. Previously, Variety had reported exclusively how HBO had been actively discussing ideas for the spin-off.

Claiming to be in the early stages of development, Aegon’s Conquest was reported to be about Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros. However, as per 2023 reports, no writers or directors were said to be attached to the show, and neither was any actor hired. But surprisingly, although plans for the prequel remained in flux, fans expressed their desire to witness Henry Cavill in the leading role.

Considering Henry Cavill‘s experience in playing fantasy characters in The Witcher and superhero roles in DC, the actor was being fan-cast as Aegon Targaryen. After previously making headlines for being fan-cast as various Westerosi characters, for his performance and physique, fans called it perfect coincidence when HBO revealed plans for Aegon’s Conquest.
