Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been best friends for many years. It was reported that the two were childhood friends during their school years. Starting their Hollywood careers back in 1997 with the release of Good Will Hunting, the two have been quite a duo over the years.

In a 2019 interview, Matt Damon revealed that he once got in a school fight with a much bigger guy. The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice actor was quick to his feet when he tackled the guy fighting Damon. Damon revealed that that was the moment he fought alongside Batman during his childhood.

After starring alongside Christian Bale in the 2019 movie Ford v Ferrari, Matt Damon appeared in an interview with notable comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien. Talking about his on-screen fight with his co-star in the movie, Damon was reminded of a real-life incident when Ben Affleck came to the rescue of the young actor.

Talking about his school days, the Interstellar actor stated that he once got into a fight with a much bigger guy. When Damon angered his schoolmate, a fight erupted with the bigger guy sitting atop Damon and about to hit him. It was then that Ben Affleck came out of nowhere and tackled the guy to the ground.

“Before I knew it, I was on the ground. He was above me, and I was like ‘This is going to be bad.’ And it was right then that little 5’2” Ben Affleck tackled this dude off of me out of nowhere. I was a junior, and he was a freshman. And he tackled this kid off of me literally at the risk of his own life.”

Matt Damon further continued,

“And really quickly then everyone broke it up. … But I remember that was a big moment, going like ‘This guy will put himself in a really bad spot for me. This is a good friend.’ … So that was the other time in my life I’ve been in a fight with Batman.”

The two have had such a bonding over the years that Matt Damon asked Ben Affleck’s grandfather, who was an army veteran about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki before starring in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer!

In an interview, Matt Damon revealed that before starring in Christopher Nolan’s magnum Opus, he talked to Ben Affleck’s grandfather. Being a Marine back in 1945, Damon talked to Affleck’s grandfather about what he felt when the bombs were dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

“I remember talking to Ben Affleck’s grandfather, who was a Marine. And he said, ‘When we heard about the bomb dropped, we cheered. This is 50 years later, he’s telling you this and he goes, I you know, I live with the fact that I cheered, but this is what they were telling us, you know, that they were going to fight to the last man.'”

Matt Damon went on to portray the role of General Leslie Groves, a US Army officer in charge of leading the development of The Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer received rave reviews from the people as audiences hailed Christopher Nolan once again as a legendary director. Oppenheimer is currently screening in theaters across the world for audiences to see.
