Katy Perry has been a member of the judging panel of American Idol for 7 long years. Perry, who joined the show in 2018 alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, had numerous memorable moments in the singing competition over several seasons and has been a prominent figure in the show. However, she dropped the bomb, after she was portrayed as a “nasty judge” by the producers as they threw her under the bus as she received backlash from the fans.
During an appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, she announced that will not be returning as a judge after the current season of American Idol comes to an end. Katy Perry mentioned, “Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wings to span.” While announcing her exit from the show, she said,
“I love ‘Idol’ so much, it’s connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out to feel that pulse of my own beat.”
The Pearl singer confirmed new music is on the way, as she said,
“I have some things planned for this year. So it’s going to be a very, very exciting year… for all popstar girlies!… I’ve been in the studio for a while”
