Known for her roles in dark, psychological thriller, the change in gears will help Sweeney usher further ahead in her climb to the top. Already an A-list actress, her repute stares at a chance of a significant uplift with this flick as it will probably involve her going through enduring transformations and challenging storylines. Regardless, she will have to drop a few chops in front of the cameras as her latest upcoming role puts her directly into the boxing rings.

After turning heads with her recent performances and showcasing her versatility, the next big challenge for the Euphoria actress comes in the form of having to play America’s most elite 90s female boxer. As reported by Deadline, Sydney Sweeney will reenact the life story of Christy Martin with David Michôd at the writing and directorial helm. Furthermore, the flick is currently being introduced to international buyers at the Cannes market and is looking to start production by Fall 2024.

Speaking to the outlet, the actress opened up that despite the “physically and emotionally demanding” nature of the film, she took it up as she loves challenging herself. Describing Martin’s life story as “powerful and emotional,” she went on to state her undeniable passion for bringing the movie to life. Additionally, she has also found resonance in the boxer’s life, who became the only female boxer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. Full of charisma and resilience, the actress is more than ready.

“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body.”

On the other side of production, the director also showed fervent enthusiasm for “wanting to make a film about a woman with a ferocious energy inside her”. Known for movies like Animal Kingdom and The King, Michôd has sufficient expertise and knowledge to turn the movie into a wrap-around success, especially at a time when Sweeney is on a filming streak.

The White Lotus actress gained immense fame and acclaim for her roles in the aforementioned TV show as well as for Euphoria and The Voyeurs. However, on her march to Hollywood dominance, she made her first big splash with Anyone But You in December of 2023. Made on a budget of $25 million, the movie has now surpassed over $219 million worldwide. Soon after, Immaculate climbed up the charts by making $22 million so far against a cost of just $9 million.

The only major disappointment for Sydney Sweeney came with Madame Web. Despite her stint as the first-ever live-action Spider-Woman, the Dakota Johnson-led flick suffered from a narrative failure and ended up under $100 million worldwide. Yet, ahead in 2024, the actress has the likes of Eden, Echo Valley, Barbarella, and a potential third season of Euphoria to her portfolio.
