Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s friendship is way stronger than any Hollywood power couple imaginable. The duo first caught the world’s attention in their early 20s with their roles in Titanic, and their connection has only grown stronger since then.

Whether expressing gratitude for one another in acceptance speeches or discussing each other in interviews, they never miss a chance to appreciate one another. Thus, when the pandemic forced everyone into isolation, DiCaprio and Winslet, too, were apart for nearly three years.

Kate Winslet Couldn’t Hold Back Tears After Reuniting with Leonardo DiCaprio After Three Years

Despite appearing on screen together only a few times after Titanic, the IT on-screen duo of Hollywood, Kate Winslet, and Leonardo DiCaprio maintained a strong friendship. Throughout the years, the two used to catch up whenever they could grab an opportunity, but the pandemic prevented them from doing so for a few years, making the actress very upset.

When she finally reunited with DiCaprio after three years, tears welled up in her eyes. In a 2021 The Guardian interview, the actress stated,

“I couldn’t stop crying,–I’ve known him for half my life! It’s not as if I’ve found myself in New York or he’s been in London and there’s been a chance to have dinner or grab a coffee and a catchup. We haven’t been able to leave our countries. Like so many friendships globally, we’ve missed each other because of Covid. He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.”

Following their iconic chemistry in Titanic, the actors reunited on screen for the 2008 film, Revolutionary Road. However, unlike Titanic’s monumental success, the movie didn’t reach similar heights. The lack of subsequent films of them starring together was intentional.

After creating what many consider the greatest romantic movie of all time, the duo opted to steer clear of romantic films altogether.

Why Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio Decreased On-Screen Collaborations After Titanic?

Although the two starred as a married couple in Revolutionary Road, the film wasn’t necessarily romantic. Rather it was quite the opposite, and that was intentional. Leonard Dicaprio once revealed to Entertainment Weekly,

“Over the years, I would find myself stopping and saying, ‘I don’t know if we should do this again,–And then I’d think, ‘What are you, an idiot? Why wouldn’t I want to work with the best actress of her generation? Am I going to be prejudiced against a project just because Kate’s in it?’ I think we both had been actively looking for something else to do together, but we fundamentally knew that we couldn’t tread on any sort of similar territory.”

Despite their deep desire to work together on projects yet again, the actors found themselves in a frustrating situation where compelling scripts were scarce, and when they did appear, they inevitably fell into the romantic genre.

The astronomical success of the film Titanic, destined to be etched in history as the ultimate love story, made the actors adamant about not allowing any other project to even be placed in a position to rival its success. They were determined to follow their strict no-romance film rules, fearing that any attempt would undoubtedly end in failure, and thus are still set on it.
