When it comes to James Bond, there are a few aspects that have been followed through all the stories, being more of a tradition, rather than a stereotype. One important part of all the films, almost as significant as 007 himself, is the presence of a Bond girl. Having a character like this, who possesses feminity and uses it as a weapon is a very important piece of the puzzle to make a good James Bond film.
This is why it was very important for Daniel Craig’s Skyfall to get their version of such a character right. It would seem that Naomie Harris, who played the role of Eve Moneypenny, was almost cast in the role. It was, however, not meant to be, as the actress believes herself to lack one of the biggest aspects of being a Bond girl.
Bond Girls Have A Very Big Power In James Bond’s Story
Naomie Harris gave an interview with The Independent, where she revealed that she was under consideration to play the Bond girl in Skyfall. One of the biggest parts of being a Bond girl is exuding femininity and using it to her advantage. The character, regardless of which James Bond they appear next to, has this one thing in common.
Harris said:
“I just feel like I don’t have the kind of assets that are normally associated with a Bond girl, and I’ve never traded on sexuality,” Naomie said, “It’s a powerful tool, right? As a woman, you can have it in your arsenal of weapons to get ahead in life,”
This was described by the actress as a trade. She also added that it was a very powerful tool and wisely used by the character, mentioning that it was a weapon in the hands of all women. However, it was pointless if they did not know how to use it, and Harris believed herself incapable.
Naomie Harris Lacks The Key Trait That Makes A Bond Girl
Naomie Harris confessed to not having this weapon in her arsenal. She mentioned that she understands allure is a very powerful tool and can be used very well, she had never personally been the type of person to use it. The fact that she didn’t have this charm, made her decide not to play the role in the James Bond film, Skyfall, as she would not know how to portray it in the most accurate way possible.
“But it’s not one I’ve really used. So I thought, how is this going to work? Because to be a Bond girl, traditionally, was all about that allure and that sexuality, and I didn’t understand how that fitted with me.” She was instead cast as Moneypenny in the film.”
Instead of being cast in the role of a Bond girl, she was cast as Eve Moneypenny. The decision, was perhaps, for the best as Harris managed to give an excellent performance as the character
