English actor Ben Barnes is growing impatient to grab a superhero movie already. Starring in the Marvel series, The Punisher from 2017 to 2019 vaulted him to wide recognition in the superhero sphere. Moreover, his early feature as Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia franchise also defined his acting career. In a recent interview, Barnes talked about his hopes of enacting a superhero before he is too old for it.
While there have been discussions on Barnes portraying a standard comic-book superhero on-screen, none of it ever came into existence. Yet, the actor has his hopes high. After witnessing one of his close friends in the 2023 sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy, Barnes had a staggering insight.
Ben Barnes is ready to be a superhero
At only 42, Ben Barnes feels his time is running out. Talking to SFX Magazine, Barnes unraveled about his growing interest in enacting a superhero. After witnessing his friend, Will Poulter get featured in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, Barnes knew he had to do it too. He said,
“Oh my God. I saw pictures the other day of one of my best friends, Will Poulter, in Guardians of the Galaxy. Man, he looks good. I want someone to put me in a superhero suit before I age out.”
Besides, geeking out on the superhero genre, Barnes claimed that there’s no Marvel movie he hadn’t seen. More so, he deduced a comparison between Marvel and DC too. He said to Female First UK,
“I’ve watched all the Marvel movies. DC is going to start becoming an interesting space again. ‘Batman’ feels taken but I love that style of alter-ego/hero.”
Besides acting, Barnes is also a talented musician and has composed five songs in the past. His love for music transpires from his belief that music can simulate people’s emotions.
Ben Barnes wants to reinvent Jigsaw
Famously portraying Jigsaw/Billy Russo in The Punisher series, he also has ideas to get creative with the character in a new way. Apart from that, The Seventh Son actor also admitted his interest in romantic comedies. His interests quite branch out into different genres. Speaking of his ideas for Jigsaw, Barnes jokingly said,
“I loved playing Jigsaw. I’d love to reframe him and really mess his face up this time.”
Furthermore, Barnes added that he has had talks about probable features in the superhero genre, but turned out to be a no-show. Barnes told,
“There’s definitely been some chats about a couple of superheroes over the years, which didn’t pan out.”
Despite being indulged in the fantasy genre for most of his career, Ben Barnes is still not satisfied. Deeming himself a big fan of the genre, and rom-com as well, he expressed his hopes for working on the same. Although, age might not yet be a problem for Barnes, given Marvel big-shots like Robert Downey Jr., and Paul Rudd are in their 50s and kicking.
