Star Wars Outlaws has the potential of being the greatest game set in a galaxy far, far away and Ubisoft is making great use of existing branches of storylines and characters that would later play out in the game. Cameos are now the ultimate fan service but the narrative director justifies their presence in the grander story.
Jabba the Hutt was a popular character in the original trilogy that caused problems for the main heroes and the setting of this game is right in between the height of the Galactic Civil War which could indicate more guest appearances.
Jabba The Hutt Is Not The Only Cameo In Star Wars Outlaws
Navid Khavari served as the narrative director for the game and shared in an interview with GameInformer his excitement to feature a character that is pivotal to the criminal underworld of the franchise.
You will have seen from what we’ve shown so far that Jabba the Hutt is in our game which we’re very excited about that as he’s such a key central underworld figure in this period… and there may be some other cameos we hope people look forward to discovering for themselves.
Fans are now obligated to track down any more potential guest appearances that are tucked away in the upcoming game. Khavari also cited Jabba’s influence in the criminal underworld fits well with the narrative he and his creative team are trying to tell.
Kay Vess is the protagonist and has no affiliation with either warring faction and is just a scoundrel getting by. The creative decision made the game stand out from any previous piece of Star Wars content.
Jabba is such an iconic syndicate leader, particularly during the original trilogy time period, so he is an essential part of telling a scoundrel story in this era.
The idea is perfect to organically connect the game to the larger universe while being able to stand on its feet without having to rely heavily upon the stories that came before but still find the time to honor them.
Star Wars Outlaws Could Feature More Obscure Characters
Ubisoft could be working on something great and offer a different kind of Star Wars story compared to EA and Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi games that focus heavily on the Force and the Jedi, this game will give fans a worm’s eye view as a normal citizen in the galaxy.
Early previews of gameplay have shown various ways of combat and traversal like the use of blasters and vehicles that highlight the beauty of iconic locations and biomes that impressed the gaming community but are still cautiously optimistic. Perhaps other characters from the original trilogy will occasionally appear.
Khavari was intrigued by the criminal underworld of Star Wars and it was a barely untapped concept until projects like Solo: A Star Wars Story delved in a little with the origins of Han Solo, but this time the game will center on a regular scoundrel ascending out of the gutters and could run into some known heroes of the galaxy.
