Jacob Elordi‘s casting in Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein was officially announced through a press release. It was reported that Andrew Garfield, who was initially cast in the role, stepped down due to scheduling conflicts caused by strike postponements (via Deadline). Elordi recently spoke about his new role during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

During the show, The Kissing Booth actor discussed his BAFTA-nominated role in Saltburn and his role in Euphoria. When Jimmy Fallon asked him about the Frankenstein role, Elordi shared his excitement about being part of the project and expressed his admiration for director Del Toro. Elordi shared that the Pinocchio director was a kind, sincere, and brilliant man. Jacob Elordi shared with The Tonight Show:

“Yeah, I’m playing Frankenstein’s creature… for Guillermo, who is the God of monsters. He’s the kindest man, and he’s so sincere. He’s brilliant.”

In 2023, Deadline reported that Oscar Isaac will play the role of Victor Frankenstein, and Mia Goth will also appear in the film. The new press release also confirmed other actors in the film, including Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery. Del Toro partnered with Netflix for the film, where he had successfully created projects like Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Pinocchio.

Frankenstein is Del Toro’s passion project and he will also be writing the screenplay for the film. He’s also producing the film alongside his earlier collaborator J. Miles Dale. It remains unclear whether Del Toro will stay true to Mary Shelley’s periodic setting or adapt the story to modern times.
