It is no secret that Cameron simultaneously worked on the third installment alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, and that means there is already a concrete plot that can be used to tease the audience. Avatar 3 will now look at a different element and introduce the Ash people who represent fire.

James Cameron’s Avatar 3 Will Explore A Different Element

Cameron revealed that the movie has no specified title as of yet, but it is already in post-production and scheduled for a December 2024 release. The director plans to show the other side of the Na’vi people that fans have never seen.

The filmmaker spoke with French publication 20 Minutes via Total Film and shared that he plans to exhibit different cultures from those he has already shown:

In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters.”

He also pointed out that the first two Avatar movies were just an introduction to the exciting part of the whole franchise.

I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal. But, obviously, everything will depend on how Avatar 2 is received if it finds its audience.”

Apparently, the future of the upcoming planned sequels depends on how the audience will perceive the latest one. James Cameron has mentioned that if fans are no longer interested, the third movie will be the final installment.

The concept of the evil Na’vi and the element of fire may seem familiar to audiences. Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender also featured people from the Fire Nation who were designed to be villainous. If James Cameron decides to introduce more tribes from the other elements, then fans will have the complete set.

Avatar 3 will add new cast, including Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis. With the seemingly successful performance of The Way of Water at the box office, fans are more likely to get the fourth and fifth movies. Producer Jon Landau once mentioned that the plot for the last two films will see the Na’vi come to Earth.
