James Gunn, the co-head of the DC Studios, is currently trying to handle a range of universes and characters all at once, and… it seems to be working! Although it might make people somewhat sad, an iconic DC villain that Ben Affleck initially wanted for his Batman film, is returning to the DCU!

From retiring actors like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck to bringing back actors like Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa, James Gunn surely had a rough start for his DCU. The recent speculation, however, will be like an arrow to the hearts of Ben Affleck fans, since this was his vision of a film!

James Gunn Is Allegedly Bringing This Iconic Villain In The DCU!

People must have surely heard the name of Slade Wilson (no, not Wade Wilson… that is Marvel). Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke is a supervillain appearing in the DC Comics who gains his powers through a super-soldier serum.

Before the fight starts, we would like to clarify that the character of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool was made as a spoof of Slade Wilson from the DC Comics (look at the release dates). But that doesn’t mean that one of the characters is lesser than the other.

As per recent speculation on X, it was alleged that Slade Wilson will be making an appearance in James Gunn’s DCU. Although Deathstroke has already made an appearance in Zack Snyder’s DCEU, it seems that the character will also be making a comeback in James Gunn’s DCU.

And of course, fans are more than happy for Slade Wilson to mark his entry into the DCU. However, they couldn’t help but include veteran actor Ben Affleck in the conversation. Ben Affleck, known for portraying the role of Batman across three DCEU movies, has a history with Deathstroke.

From wanting to direct his own version of Batman to fighting Slade Wilson in the film, fans cannot help but remember the actor due to this news!

Ben Affleck Wanted Slade Wilson In His Batman Film!

Alongside being an iconic actor, Affleck is also a fan of directing and producing films. Back in 2021, the actor was promoting Zack Snyder’s Justice League when fans got a peek into the directing mind of the Daredevil actor.

When talking about antagonists, it seems that Affleck couldn’t help but praise the character Deathstroke while talking about villains. During the Full Circle event (via The Direct), Affleck revealed that a villain should be so formidable that people fear for the hero.

I kind of feel like either you do — I’m just going to get into my own preference here — but either you do a kind of massive one villain that is so formidable you just can’t imagine how your protagonist is going to be able to overcome it.

After Affleck left the realms of the DCEU and the DCU, James Gunn is allegedly bringing back the iconic villain that Ben Affleck wanted to fight in his film. After Affleck backed out of the Batman project, director Matt Reeves joined in the conversation, and the 2022 film The Batman was a result of their conversations.

Although fans may remain excited about a potential entry of Deathstroke in the DCU, there has been currently no hard evidence supporting or denying this theory. The only way to know for sure… is to simply wait and watch.
