Will Blue Beetle Return?

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has discussed the potential return of Blue Beetle in the DCU reboot. He has stated that the new DC Universe will have “a handful of other characters” in addition to Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle.

In March of this year, Gunn said that the film “is totally disconnected” from what came before it, but added that “he can totally be a part of the DCU“.

We are part of the universe, we are part of the world, we are part of the plans that they have been creating for the future installments of the DCU,” Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto said in an interview earlier this summer.

But we are not tied to all the films from the past. Yes, our movie lives in the world where superheroes exist. But that doesn’t mean that a certain event, or certain alliance, or certain things from the past dictate where our film is going.”

The DC Extended Universe is currently being rebooted as the slightly more straightforwardly titled DC Universe, which will officially begin with the release of Superman: Legacy in 2025.

Blue Beetle is currently playing in theaters.
