James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, revealed several projects under the first chapter of the new DC Universe, one of them being Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. And Milly Alcock, known for portraying Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO drama House of the Dragon, has secured the role of Supergirl in the DCU.

Gunn took to Instagram to confirm the news and praised the actress for her exceptional performance in House of the Dragon and her versatile auditions and screen tests for the role of Supergirl in the DCU. He also said that he is “incredibly excited” about the Australian actress joining the DCU.

“I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon, but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl,” he mentioned in the caption of the post. While the character is set to feature in her own solo film, reports also suggested that Kara Zor-El would potentially make her DCU debut in Superman: Legacy.

According to Deadline, she has beat actresses like Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly to win the role. However, new speculations suggest that Donnelly, having previously voiced Supergirl, might still have an opportunity to join the DCU.

Along with Milly Alcock, Meg Donnelly was also reported to be one of the leading contestants to land the role of Supergirl in the DCU.
