The new DC Universe is not just about movies and shows, but gaming too, making it a all-encompassing entertainment franchise. And since the Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stepped up as the co-CEO of the DC Studios, fans can hope for more colors to be added to the predominantly dark-themed DC universe.

DC Comics video games like the Arkham Trilogy made waves in the gaming industry. However, it seems like those waves have since settled, with Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League appearing to have failed to win the hearts of fans. For now, it has a nine out of ten rating on Steam, but the overall audience ratings summary makes it a disaster.

Things are not going great for the Suicide Squad game

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League came out on February 2, 2024, with a lot of expectations as it was connected to the Arkham universe created by Rocksteady Studios. The game already created a bad impression on some users after it paid a poor homage to Kevin Conroy. They felt a Batman Beyond game would be better.

Despite all the fuss, the game at least gets one thing right, the battle pass system that challenges the traditional approach and allows players to revisit storylines. Usually, battle passes go live for a limited time, creating a sense of urgency for its ‘exclusive’ items. And this process goes on forever.

Hopefully, the downloadable content will save the game from further annihilation. Nevertheless, DC universe has a lot that it can use to restore the glory of its gaming segment. James Gunn’s entry is among the most important aspects of this. Although he is all in for movies and shows but has hinted the new DCU will connect with the gaming segment too.

James Gunn, alongside Peter Safran, joined the newly formed DC Studios in October 2022. Gunn is currently overlooking the creative side while Safran is in charge of business and production. Currently, they are involved in an almost ten-year plan for the new DCU which will begin with ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.’

Actors have faith in James Gunn’s direction. Dave Bautista, an actor who worked with him in GoTG, has expressed his desire to work with him in an interview despite the franchise.

I would love to work with James again, whether it’s DC Universe or not. I just love James Gunn. He’s an incredible director and we have a camaraderie that’s priceless. So to work with him again? I mean I’d do it for free.”

The  GoTG director has the potential to do wonders if his past works are anything to go by. Moreover, with regard to gaming, he himself is a gamer, which could be a good sign for DC’s gaming segment should he choose to get himself involved in it. In a social media campaign in February 2022, he revealed his favorite games including Mass Effect, Defense Grid, and Knights of the Old Republic.
