AEW World Champion Samoa Joe will lend his voice to King Shark in the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. He recently spoke to Bleacher Report about his role as the DC antihero and his passion for gaming.

The star revealed how it had been “an incredible experience” to voice the character “with a super-talented voice cast” and Rocksteady’s “amazing writing.” The star has a deep connection with the shark, stating that:

He’s quite the intelligent savage. I can relate a lot to how he feels about things.

According to Joe, Rocksteady’s version of King Shark will be one we haven’t seen yet. He stated that past portrayals of the character had all been “different takes” and “really, really fun,” and how it was “pretty cool” to be added to the list of King Shark actors.

The last depiction of the antihero came via Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, who voiced him in James Gunn’s 2021 The Suicide Squad movie. Previously, comedian Ron Funches lent his voice to King Shark in HBO’s cartoon Harley Quinn. However, according to Joe, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will stand out.

I think this is probably the most unique interpretation of King Shark. I think it’s one that shows you how earnest a shark in his circumstances can be.

It seems Rocksteady will take a deeper dive into the usually less vocal character and will allow players to get a more in-depth understanding of the antihero. Joe stated during the interview that players would be able to learn more about him while playing, as “it becomes more apparent what crafted him into the way he is.”

Samoa Joe Is a “Big Gamer” Himself

The actor doesn’t just have a deep connection with the antihero, but also with the Arkhamverse at large. He revealed that he was a “big gamer” himself, and how he had a “well-versed background in the lore” after playing through the Arkham trilogy.

Playing King Shark in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn’t Joe’s first foray into the gaming space. The wrestler also starred as Sweet Tooth in Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV adaptation. The show has been renewed for a second season, and while his character’s return has not been officially confirmed, Joe stated:

I’m looking forward to season 2. I would imagine there’s a pretty good chance old Sweet Tooth will be seen in the second season.

It seems likely fans will see the professional wrestler wearing the iconic clown’s mask again in season 2 when it launches.
