Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will bring the James Gunn-directed MCU trilogy to an end. Even though Phase 4 has been labeled as mediocre by many, and the beginning of Phase 5 hasn’t been ideal with Ant-Man 3 failing to even collect $500 million worldwide, fans are still excited to see the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

MCU worshippers are hoping that the Chris Pratt-led movie will be a game-changer for Marvel and act as a fitting farewell for the Guardians trilogy. However, it looks like fans need to keep their expectations in check because the Rotten Tomatoes score for the film may serve as an omen of things to come.

The MCU isn’t having a great time at the box office or with critics. But with James Gunn at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 many hoped that there would be a resurgence for Marvel with fans and critics alike. But, instead of alleviating Kevin Feige’s stress, it looks like the film is going to add to it.

The Rotten Tomatoes score of the film currently stands at 79% after 134 reviews. This makes the movie the lowest-scoring one in the Guardians trilogy. The first film has an uber-high critics and audience score of 92% while the next one comes in at a solid 85%. The audience score for the second film is only a little higher at 87%.

It seems like critics and audiences tend to more or less agree on the score for this franchise. As such, one has to wonder if the audience score will also settle in at a less-than-ideal 79% or 80%. Fans have a lot to say about this critic score as well.

While a Rotten Tomatoes score of 79% is certainly higher than Doctor Strange 2’s 74%, Thor 4’s 63%, and Ant-Man 3’s embarrassing 47%, it’s also a lot lower than Black Panther 2’s 84%. Not to mention the fact that the film hasn’t even been released yet, so there’s a chance that this isn’t the final score and chances are that it can go even lower. Fans are baffled by this score and have some interesting opinions to share about it.

The Rotten Tomatoes score can certainly go a lot higher once it actually premiers. The trailers for James Gunn’s last MCU film have led many to believe that it will be an emotional movie that will possibly be the last appearance of characters like Drax and Gamora. As such, if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 can nail the emotions, it will be a guaranteed hit with the fans. It’s now time to wait and watch to see how this beloved MCU franchise ends its trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases on 5 May 2023.
