James Gunn is currently developing various DC projects for his new DCU. The co-CEO of DC Studios has crafted a well-devised plan for how he wants his DC universe to be. He is currently shooting Superman which will be the first live-action film and is set to kick off Chapter 1 of his DCU.
In addition to films, Gunn is developing various TV shows that will contribute to the overall storytelling of his DCU. He has announced that he will do a second season of Peacemaker after the huge success of season 1. However, his new comments regarding the second season have confused fans.
James Gunn Claims Season 1 of Peacemaker is Not Canon in His New DCU
James Gunn is currently hard at work shooting Superman which will come out next year, with the reveal of a new concept art recently. The film is the first of many projects that will be a part of the new DCU that he is building for Warner Bros and DC studios. Gunn recently confirmed that season 2 of Peacemaker will start shooting in the summer of this year simultaneously with Superman via Threads.
When asked about the continuity of the new season, Gunn gave a very surprising statement that season 1 of Peacemaker will not be canon in his new DCU. This put off a lot of fans and were understandably confused by Gunn’s intention with the second season.
The first season had already established John Cena’s Peacemaker and his team with their own individual character arcs. It ended on a highly satisfying note but with Gunn’s latest claims, it seems all the character evolution and story of season 1 do not matter anymore and will be omitted when the new season comes.
Gunn seems to be starting from scratch with Peacemaker and his story for his new DCU. This will absolutely cause a lot of continuity issues for fans who are expecting a follow-up to the great first season. While they are disappointed with this update, Gunn seems to have a specific plan to reboot the character and place him among the other heroes in the new DCU.
John Cena Trusts James Gunn’s Plans for Peacemaker’s Future
John Cena is set to return as Peacemaker in season 2 of his hit DC show. While nothing is known about where the new season will go, Cena teased exciting things for the character in an interview with Variety. Cena stated that he is aware of the changes that have taken place since James Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios.
Cena further claimed that Gunn is one of his trusted friends and he is confident that he will come up with a brilliant script for the second season. He said,
“I know they’re shifting around some things over at DC, but I know that James Gunn’s made some statements that we’re going in for [“Peacemaker”] Season 2, and what he says usually he does.”
