Despite their failed marriage, director James Gunn and actress Jenna Fischer still remain close friends. The two got married way before they found fame but their marriage unfortunately came to an end, but that didn’t break their bond. When Fischer was looking for her big break while Gunn was a budding screenwriter, the two met through Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn.
Several sources have confirmed over the years that Sean Gunn and Fischer met way before they entered the industry as they used to attend the same acting classes together. After Sean Gunn introduced Fischer to his brother, things worked between the two and they were married by October 2000. Unfortunately, their marriage came to an end in 2007 but they have maintained a close bond since then.

Long before his days as the co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn was awestruck by the beauty of actress Jenna Fischer. The director was introduced to the actress by his brother, actor Sean Gunn. Back then, both of them were looking for their big breaks in the entertainment industry.
As per Cleveland, Sean Gunn and Jenna Fischer attended the same acting class that was put on by Fischer’s mother before the two entered the industry. Through Sean Gunn, Fischer met the director and the two instantly hit it off. They got married on October 7, 2000, however, they announced their separation in September 2007. In a joint statement, the two explained (via Today),
“We have chosen to separate. We are sorry for any pain this causes family and friends. The enthusiasm we have expressed for each other’s lives, spirits, and careers is real – we have been each other’s cheerleader and friend during the past six years and continue to be so now and in the future.”
While married to Gunn, Fischer landed the role of Pam Beesly on NBC’s popular sitcom The Office, based on the original BBC series. The role made Fischer a worldwide sensation and opened up bigger opportunities for her.

In 2019, when Gunn was on bad terms with Disney after they fired her from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, the director compared it to his failed marriage with Fischer. In an interview with Exclaim, the director said,
“It was like the breakup of my marriage. I got divorced, and then had those conversations with my ex-wife: ‘Let’s get along as well as we possibly can and be kind to each other because we’re both a large part of each other’s lives but I would hate to look back on the six years that my wife and I were together and think, Oh, what a waste of time. Instead, I think it was a time when I really grew a lot and we were really good to each other. There were some problems, and we just weren’t supposed to be married, but it was well worth living that six years with my ex.”
In 2010, Fischer got married to screenwriter Lee Kirk while Gunn has been in a relationship with actress Jennifer Holland since 2015. The two got married in 2022. Despite the setbacks, Gunn and Fischer have maintained their close bond even after the divorce.
