Fans are eager to see Gunn’s take on Superman, particularly since the movie is said to pit him against some of DC’s most ruthless versions of Batman and Superman, given Gunn’s track record of directing superhero movies that combine humor, heart, and action.

Here Come The Authority and Other Villains

The dark versions of Batman and Superman, Midnighter and Apollo, are rumored to appear in James Gunn’s Superman, pitting him against The Authority, a squad of superpowered antiheroes with extreme methods.

If this is the case, then the openly homosexual characters Midnighter and Apollo and Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch’s 1999 creation The Authority would be featured in a live-action film for the first time.

KC Walsh, founder of Geeks WorldWide, recently tweeted interesting information about James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Walsh claims to have learned this information from an unnamed source. According to Walsh’s tweets, Gods and Monsters will be the film’s first part, featuring a fight between Superman and The Authority.

For those unfamiliar with the comic book series, The Authority is a secret superhero team that breaks the law and resorts to deadly force to keep the world safe. Jenny Sparks (electrical abilities), The Engineer (morphing and techno-organic powers), Swift (superhuman speed and agility), Jack Hawksmoor (city-based abilities), and Midnighter and Apollo (superhuman strength, durability, and martial arts skills) are all part of The Authority.

Their relationship has been a contentious but groundbreaking element of their characterization, and they are frequently portrayed as a gay pair. Although The Authority isn’t as well-known as the Justice League or the Suicide Squad, they still have a dedicated following of readers who enjoy their dark and mysterious style.

Creating The Authority

Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch, who co-created The Authority, said they were inspired to write and draw Marvel’s The Ultimates after reading The Authority. If The Authority is the primary antagonist in Superman: Legacy, James Gunn may attempt to present a darker and more nuanced version of the DC Universe than we have seen before.

According to Walsh’s tweets, the film originally speculated to be a spin-off from Superman: Legacy will feature the appearance of Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter. Fans adore Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen’s 1983 creation Lobo for his sarcastic sense of humor, indestructible skin, and affinity for violence.

Lobo and Superman have had several run-ins in the comics, and their feud could make for exciting cinematic scenes. In addition, Walsh suggested that Dark Superman, a well-known DC Comics character, could play a part in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, though he gave no specifics.

Dark Superman, also known as Bizarro, is a perverted double of Superman with similar but flawed abilities, a warped moral compass, and a childlike intellect. Whether as a sad monster or a comedic foil, Bizarro has always contributed to the stories he’s been a part of.
