Superman is one of the frontline classic heroes of DC Universe and different filmmakers have exploited the character in different ways in their own version of the tale of Man of Steel. While James Gunn is set to bring a new Superman fans are keeping their high hopes aside.
Gunn shared a new wall collage of Superman, and fans are not quite happy with that hoping that Gunn might use a similar Superman as he shared in the photograph. And all the disappointments revolved around bringing the traditional Superman with trunks.

In his approach to Superman, James Gunn seems to bring more traditional traits to the DC hero. Recently, as Gunn shared the wall collage in his production office depicting Kal-El, it seems more evident that he will adhere to the classic version of the hero with a tribute to his classic suit. However, the classic suit could be nostalgic for some but arguably it is outdated, especially Superman with trunks.
Of course, different filmmakers have given different suits to the Man of Steel. Henry Cavill’s Superman wore a modern outfit and Zack Snyder’s hallmark of the hero has been embedded in not just the narrative but the very different outlook of the character deviating from the classical jitter.
Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is most likely to be traditional following the originality of the character that emerged in the golden age of comics, with his red trunks. Evidently, Superman’s pal Batman has discarded the trunk since Tim Burton’s 1989 movie Batman starring Michael Keaton replacing it with an all-black body armor. It was rather cool and fans have accepted that with grace. Now, it is hard to exactly predict what Gunn is cooking but his recent update is certainly adjacent to the traditional Superman.

Taking to his Instagram, Gunn has shared the production wall of Superman: Legacy where panels and cover art from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale’s Superman for All Seasons were depicted in a collage. Of course, the comic was a critical hit in 1998. However, many fans seem to be upset with Superman’s costume, especially with the trunks.

Of course, many rejoiced the classic tale of Superman expecting a nostalgic version of the classical DC hero. However, the debate on the trunks is still dominating the social platforms. Now, fans are waiting for a trailer drop which will clear the cloud of doubt for one of the highly anticipated DC slates.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled for theatrical release on 11 July 2025.
