Jamie Dornan Talks Dealing With the Ridicule of Fifty Shades of Grey

Jamie Dornan recently appeared on the BBC radio show Desert Island Discs, where he discussed the highs and lows of his career. During the conversation, Dornan was asked about his starring role in 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which was his breakthrough project. Although the film was a box-office success, it was initially ridiculed by critics, especially for its acting.

Dornan revealed that it was difficult for him to deal with the negative reactions since he had received critical acclaim for his performance in the BBC drama series The Fall prior to starring in the film.

“I think I hid. I am coming off the back of career-altering reviews for The Fall to just ridicule almost.”

“It was a strange thing because then you are like there is a bit of ridicule here and I’m now contractually doing two more of them and knowing that there would be more of that damnation to come.”
